Chris Robinson – Sunday Sound

Sunday Sound - Chris Robinson

The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson released his debut solo album, New Earth Mud, in 2002. The band included ex Black Crowes members Marc Ford and Eddie Hersch, and they chose to use the album title as their band name as well. The songs on New Earth Mud display Robinson’s deeply ingrained leaning towards earthy, Southern style Americana and the deeply influential effect of the Laurel Canyon sound on his songwriting style. ”Sunday Sound” could just as well be an offering from the Grateful Dead or The Band with its signature bouncy acoustic, rootsy feel. The song is celebratory in feel and passes slowly and carelessly like a tranquil Sunday afternoon. Robinson’s vocal interplay with the happy, bubbling guitar lines make for a dreamy, laid back listening experience.

“Stuck up in a lush life
The phone lines are down
Out on the salt flats
They take their money to town
Just like water on the ground
We will find our way

Hallucination nation
We got our vaccine
Dancing for quarters ain’t as underground as it seems
Just like water on the ground we will find our way

Well I’d like to dance with you
As the band plays on
I’d like to talk with you till dawn
We’ll make a Sunday sound loud and clear
We’ll make a Sunday sound
That love’s here..love’s here

Decompression, coming up for air
A minor complication to what it is you caught down there
And just like water on the ground
Say we will find our way

Well I’d like to dance with you as the band plays on
I’d like to talk with you till dawn
We’ll make a Sunday sound both loud and clear
We’ll make a Sunday sound
That love’s here.. Say love’s here

We’ll it’s hard enough just staying friendly
Just to remain the apple of your eye
Well these days I stay busy
‘Cause making something outta nothing just ain’t passing time

New Mexico love song
Warm your feathers in the sun
Your California traffic
Well it just it just ain’t no fun

Just like water on the ground
We will find our way

Well I’d like to dance with you
As the band plays on
I’d like to talk with you
‘Till dawn
We’ll make a Sunday sound
Loud and clear
We’ll make a Sunday sound
That love’s here
Love’s here”
